Jon Manel is the Podcast Commissioning Editor at the BBC World Service. He commissioned the award winning international podcast hit, Death in Ice Valley, which is a collaboration with Norway’s NRK, and the BBC’s first English language podcast in India, Kalki Presents: My Indian Life, as well as 30 Animals That Made Us Smarter and 13 Minutes to the Moon. Previously, he was a multi-award winning BBC investigative reporter. He created the OMA Podcast of the Year 2018, The Adoption. He revealed the contents of British government papers on the Hillsborough football disaster, reported from inside the US detention camps in Guantanamo Bay and exposed the treatment of some elderly residents in care homes.
