"I didn't dare believe that I would win more than three awards" he said jokingly.
George sees the podcast space as being somewhere where he can be himself. It offers him a freedom that he has not found elsewhere.
"The only restriction is myself" he said.
He went on: "In the music industry my more innovative impulses were suppressed. If you can have an interesting conversation, then you can have an interesting podcast".
One of George's best known episodes was about the migrant crisis. It had impact beyond the podcast, helping inform international strategies and political decisions. For George, it was not an easy episode to make. But, still, he sees this as his responsibility.
"Podcasters can do more than get paid to dance around the drama. We can advocate for the people who are doing hard work"
With awards on the mantlepiece and a variety of potential collaborations on offer, the future looks bright for George the Poet.
"There's going to be more. We've only seen the top of the ice berg so far. You'll hear more by the end of the year".
