It all started with applying for a job and a creative pitch at the end of the application. It’s been an amazing journey that started as a chat!
7m downloads, 120k per episodes on BBC Sounds – a young audience.
And…..BIG ANNOUNCEMENT – Brexicast is going to go on BBC 1 in the slot of the week after Question Time on Thursday nights!!!!
It will remain a podcast, but from September it will be on TV. This is the first time the audience has found and grown its own community. It’s a truly interactive audience and the opportunity exists to invite people to join the conversation through the medium of podcast and now TV: this podcast has happened naturally and hopefully this will also be true of for TV.
The team answered question on swearing, who their most difficult interview was, how many times they have invited the EU Top Negotiator into Brexicast and how to prioritise work.
The podcast is created with the team from different locations, through an app called Lucy Live or FaceTime or Whatsapp Audio – this is how they record on the run. ‘Headphones are the most important thing if you are running through an airport!’ said Katya.
Brexitcast is unedited, it’s rare that something is actually edited. It’s recorded at funny times of night, in a variety of locations, and Lucy Live sometimes doesn’t work! This is something that will present a challenge for TV. The Podcast however remain the podcast just with TVs in the studio!
